Jordy the Torty

Jordy is an African Sulcata Tortoise, the third largest species of tortoise in the world. He became a resident at FPAS during the summer of 2022 at 22 years old and traveled all the way from South Florida. Jordy is incredibly sweet, loves people and other animals, and knows his name. His favorite hobbies include eating and grazing (which is also eating) and sunbathing. He’s around 100 pounds of pure magic!

Jordy was originally bought for an Eagle Scout to get a badge in animal husbandry in freezing cold Connecticut where it wasn’t even safe for him to go outside, so he lived in a basement for the first 9 years of his life. Inappropriate living conditions and nutrition caused irreversible shell deformities. When they finally decided to rehome him, he found himself in warm south Florida and in the loving care of a wonderful reptile experienced lady for the next 13 years who we refer to as Jordy’s Mom. While she originally planned to only foster him temporarily, he ended up being a foster fail.

As his Mom became older and he became healthier and more active, needing more grazing and tunneling space, she began looking for a sanctuary she felt comfortable transferring him to for the next leg of his 100+ year life. We’re so honored she chose FPAS!
